Summary

Michael Ritter:

The Maps of the Holy Land by Johann Ulrich Stapf (1691) and its reprint by Johann Georg Koller

Cartographica Helvetica 42 (2010) 29–37

Summary:

During the last few years, two rare maps, about which there is only very little known, have come to the attention of map collectors and historians specialized in the cartographic history of the Holy Land. These are two large copper engravings entitled 'Judea or the Holy Land', published in Augsburg by Johann Ulrich Stapf and Johann Georg Koller respectively. Although scant bibliographic references can be found in professional literature about Stapf's map, no mention is made about Koller's map, not even in specialized literature. This article will shed some light on these two undated rarities.
